CTD arrests three facilitators of Gwadar suicide bombing

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan Province’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced that it arrested three facilitators of the suicide bombing attack on the Chinese engineer convoy last month, revealing that the mastermind of the attack is still lurking in the city of Chahbahar in Iran.

A banned terrorist group, the Balochistan Liberation Army, issued a statement last month claiming responsibility for the suicide bombing in Gwadar, which killed four local children and injured a Chinese national.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told media that the attack in Gwadar was carried out by a young suicide bomber.

CTD officials said Pakistan today this first investigation revealed that the suicide bomber who targeted Chinese nationals in Gwadar was from Iran.

The CTD said: “An arrested terrorist has revealed that Rasool Bux, a resident of the Sheeran Chahbahar region in Iran, is the mastermind of the attack.

“The arrested terrorist, Arif, son of Dur Muhammad alias Durra, revealed that his brother Ahmed had transported the suicide bomber from the Ramin region in Iran. He [Arif] received the suicide bomber upon his arrival on August 11 and provided him with accommodation near [the] Customs warehouse in Gwadar, ”added the CTD.

Meanwhile, according to a news outlet, the Punjab Counterterrorism Department announced the arrest of eight people suspected of being involved in terrorist activities in various towns in Punjab, including Lahore.

The suspects were arrested by the counterterrorism force during operations across the province, a CTD spokesperson said. He added that in addition to weapons, the CTD also recovered bomb-making equipment and explosives.
