Iranian Sunni leader confirms rape of 15-year-old girl by police commander

A prominent Sunni cleric in Iran, sometimes critical of the government, implicitly confirmed reports of the rape of a 15-year-old girl by a police commander.

Molavi Abdolhamid, the religious leader of Iran’s predominantly Sunni Baloch population living in the southeastern province of Sistan-Balochistan, referred to the incident during his Friday sermon, describing it as “the incident”, without specifying the names and details of the case.

The Haalvsh website, a local media outlet, first reported the rape earlier in September, but the case was buried and no investigation took place to follow up on the matter.

Colonel Ebrahim Khouchakzai, the Chabahar town police commander, allegedly raped the 15-year-old girl while investigating a murder case in one of the town’s neighborhoods. Apparently the girl was the daughter of one of the murdered woman’s neighbors and Khouchakzai took her to his office for questioning and raped her.

The girl came home and told her mother that the colonel had stripped her naked on the pretext of examining her body and then raped her.

According to the latest reports, the city’s police force took three relatives hostage of the rape victim to force his family to publicly deny the information and promise not to press charges against Colonel Khouchakzai.
