Mountaineer Toolika Rani to educate voters in Lucknow


Squadron Leader Toolika Rani, who is Uttar Pradesh’s first woman to climb Mount Everest, has been appointed Systematic Voter Education and Voter Turnout (SVEEP) Ambassador for Lucknow to raise voter awareness and increase voter turnout. voter participation in the upcoming 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India launched in 2009 in which voters are informed about their right to vote, its power to strengthen democracy and the general voting process.

As an Ambassador of SVEEP, Toolika would participate in various activities organized by the state administration in educational institutions, women’s institutions and the general public to raise awareness among students, women and the general population. in order to encourage them and enable them to exercise their right to vote actively and judiciously. .

A letter in this regard was issued by CDO (Development Officer) Ashwini Kumar Pandey and was sent to the District Magistrate, Deputy District Elections Commissioner, Basic Education Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Education. information, the panchayat raj district manager, etc.

Toolika has not only climbed Mount Everest, but also has 23 mountaineering and trekking expeditions to her name in India, Russia, Nepal, Africa and Iran. In addition, she is the first Indian woman to climb Asia’s highest volcano, Mount Damavand in Iran.

While serving in the Indian Air Force for ten years, she trained hundreds of future officers in military training, including India’s first three female fighter pilots. She has been recognized with 14 awards, including Rani Laxmi Bai Veerta Puruskar by the government of Uttar Pradesh.

As a motivational speaker, she has given over 130 lectures and talks in India, USA, UK, Bulgaria and Italy. His recently published book, “Beyond That Wall: Redemption on Everest” received the “Sahitya Shree” award from the Rubaru Foundation, Lucknow.
