Republican State Senator Zach Nunn is running for the United States House in Iowa’s 3rd 16-county District, which stretches from Polk County in the southwest to Council Bluffs.
The 3rd is represented by Democratic Representative Cindy Axne, who has not announced whether she will run for a third term in Congress. Axne said she was keeping all options open.
Nunn, 42, business owner and lieutenant colonel in the Iowa Air National Guard, has completed more than 700 hours of combat during three deployments to the Middle East. He was elected to Iowa House in 2014 and then to the Senate in 2018 from Senate 15 in eastern Polk County and Jasper County.
Describing himself as a “proven fighter for you on the battlefield and in our State Capitol,” Nunn said he would travel to Washington to defend freedom.
“My next mission is to bring these values from Iowa to Washington and defeat the socialist agenda of the far left in the process,” he said in a campaign ad.
As the sixth generation from Iowa, Nunn said he takes it personally “when DC stops worrying about the Heartland.”
“You trusted me to fight at the Statehouse and we have delivered time and time again, passing the biggest tax cut to help working class Iowans keep more of their hard-earned money, protecting our constitutional rights and strengthening our family farms, ”Nunn said. “We have a battle ahead of us” because “DC elites are determined to pick winners and losers in America.”
