Trichy: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) Chairman KS Alagiri called CM Edappadi K Palaniswami’s waiver of the crop loan a political coup and ignoring farmers. He also criticized the BJP government at the Center for enacting the three agricultural laws.
Addressing a town hall titled farmers’ yatra plow, hosted by TNCC in Musiri here on Saturday, he said MP Stalin had vowed to forgo the crop loan as the first thing to do after coming to power. “After the demand of all opposition parties through protests, Edappadi announced the waiver. You did not do it for the farmers. You do it for politics and to prevent opposition parties from getting stronger. He added that the people of Tamil Nadu are aware that the welfare of the farmers was not the real intention behind this.
Congressman Su Thirunavukkarasar was notable for his absence from the meeting held in his own constituency. Alleging that the AIADMK government supported the “anti-agrarian” bills passed by the BJP government, the TNCC chairman said the TNCC would champion the cause of the changing of the guard in the Center and in the state. Alagiri recalled the suspension order given by SC on Madras HC ordering CBI to investigate the corruption allegations against EPS. “I wonder why CBI didn’t try to leave the stay even after a long time,” he said. AICC general secretary Sanjay Dutt criticized EPS for “announcing the renunciation of the agricultural loan knowing full well that they will be dethroned”. TNN
