CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – Clarksville and the Oak Grove Tourism Commission are teaming up to host the sixth annual “Welcome Home Veterans” September 15-19. The five-day event will feature free exhibits and activities, as well as meals and concerts to show appreciation to those who have served the country.
“We were very excited about the partnership with Oak Grove. It is a big step towards making an event accessible to more people,” said Matt Cunningham, president of Visit Clarksville.
Exhibits include the “Traveling American Veterans Wall,” an 80% replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC New exhibits include “The Mobile Classroom and General Tommy Franks Roadshow.” This mobile museum is designed to enhance and enrich children’s learning.
“The Cost of Freedom Tribute” is a tribute dedicated to the warriors of Afghanistan and Iraq with all the names of the victims and the recipients of the Medal of Honor for the hostage-taking in Iran, the Cold War, World War I and World War II. “Cost of Freedom” also includes a tribute to the victims of September 11.
Free activities include a screening of the documentary “The Girl Who Carried Freedom”, a Veterans Picnic and a Veterans Parade. Paid events will include an opening dinner at Valor Hall in Oak Grove and a performance by CMA Male Vocalist of the Year, Lee Greenwood, who will perform at the Oak Grove Gaming Amphitheater. Local favorites Music 4 Mercy will open for Greenwood.
